Violet Mae Warren McKinnies of Spillertown
MARION - Violet Mae Warren McKinnies, 98, went home to be with the Lord at 9:35 p.m. on May 2, 2018 at Shawnee Christian Village in Herrin.
Violet was born March 5, 1920, the daughter of Grace Larkin of Chicago and granddaughter of Hattie Key of Simpson. She was a lifelong resident of Spillertown and member of the Marion Second Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and treasurer of her Sunday school class for over 20 years.
She married Carl Smith McKinnies in 1937, and together they had 10 children: Delores Yarbrough of Flossmoor, Jackie (deceased), Jan Wallace of Fort Myers, Florida, Michael Gene (Jane) McKinnies of Mount Vernon, Jim (Winetta) McKinnies of Willis, Michigan, Carla (Don) Underwood of Evansville, Indiana, George (Megan) McKinnies of Indianapolis, Indiana, Steve (deceased), Keith McKinnies and Tommy McKinnies, both of Marion. She has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Violet was preceded in death by her grandmother, Hattie Key; mother, Grace Larkin; her husband of 35 years, Carl; and two children, Jackie and Steve.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 7 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. Mark Mohler of the Second Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
