Stier Arms marks one year with ribbon-cutting ceremony
JOHNSTON CITY - Jay Bruce has been selling guns and ammo since about 2010, but his storefront location on Broadway Avenue in Johnston City has been open for a year.
Bruce and city officials marked the anniversary of Stier Arms with an open house and ribbon-cutting on Saturday morning.
"We're glad to have a successful business here," said Mayor Jim Mitchell.
Bruce said opening the storefront has increased his sales. "Once people figured out our hours, it's been great."
Because Bruce also works another job, Stier Arms is only open from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
The business will begin offering Illinois Conceal/Carry classes in the fall.
"It looks like the first class might be an all-female class," said Mitchell with a grin, noting his wife and several friends are eager for the class to begin.
