Man gets prison for battering girlfriend

A Carbondale man has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for a 2018 domestic battery.

State's Attorney Mike Carr says Tarriel A. Hudson, 39, of Carbondale was sentenced to 78 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections for his involvement in the incident, which occurred Jan. 18, 2018.

On that day, according to Carr, Murphysboro Police investigated a report of a domestic battery. The investigation revealed that Hudson had battered his girlfriend. He was subsequently charged with domestic battery, which was elevated from a misdemeanor offense based on Hudson's multiple previous domestic battery convictions.

Hudson pleaded guilty to the charge Feb. 6, 2018, and was sentenced to 24 months probation, with certain terms imposed by the court with which he was to comply.

Hudson did not comply in that he failed to report to the probation office, and he did not complete the counseling and substance abuse treatment program as ordered.

A petition to revoke probation was filed.

On May 20, 2019, during a contested hearing, the court ruled that sufficient evidence was presented to show the defendant had committed multiple violations of his court order.

On Aug. 23, the court passed down the new sentence.
