On track SIC regional art museum on schedule to open in fall 2019

HARRISBURG - Construction continues at a rapid pace on Southeastern Illinois College's new art museum.

The retaining walls around the footprint of the museum have been finished, while work continues on the museum building.

The Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art, will showcase artwork from among 40 counties in southern Illinois, along with Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri.

The museum is funded solely by a $2.5 million donation from retired Air Force Col. William C. Hise and the estate of his late twin brother, Air Force Brig. Gen. James C. Hise.

The museum is named for their sister, who was a teacher and art supervisor for the Harrisburg school district.

The 8,000-square-foot museum will feature an exhibit hall, plus a front entrance foyer, lounge, classroom and professional workspace. Various art-related shows, talks and venues are scheduled at the Hise Museum.

The museum is scheduled to be finished prior to the beginning of the fall 2019 semester.<links>
<data>
