Erratic man rescued from flood waters

Local police rescued a seemingly mentally erratic subject from flood waters Sunday.
Perry County Sheriff Steve Bareis said Monday that at around 7:23 p.m. April 30, Du Quoin Police discovered a suspicious vehicle parked in flood waters on Davisville Road near Cole Street in Du Quoin. The responding officer reporting that the vehicle was tied to a fence post and a male subject, identified as 25-year-old Phillip Morrison of Eldorado, outside of the car and acting in a suspicious manner.
Perry County deputies, the Du Quoin Police and Fire departments, the Benton Fire Department, Pinckneyville EMS and IDNR also were called to the scene due to flood conditions.
For more than an hour, attempts were made to give Morrison verbal commands, but they were unsuccessful, and Morrison continued to display reportedly erratic behavior. Emergency personnel then approached Morrison, made contact with him and transported him to Marshall Browning Hospital for evaluation.
There was no word Monday on any formal charges or citations.
