Brewing company buying the Landmark

One of Chester's oldest and most iconic buildings is getting another chance at life.

In a Sunday morning news release, the St. Nicholas Brewing Company, based in Du Quoin, announced it is opening a second location by buying the historic Landmark building in Chester's riverfront district.

In 2009, an ownership group bought, renovated and eventually reopened the circa 1879 St. Nicholas Hotel in Du Quoin as a place for craft beers, food and entertainment.

The Landmark, which is 41 years older than the St. Nicholas Hotel, will have a similar vision according to St. Nicholas Brewing Company President Tom Welge.

"We're, of course, going to focus on the beer and the food and work toward some entertainment," Welge told the Herald Tribune. "We want it to be a place where families can come, couples can come and any visitor will be welcome."
