Carbondale woman sentenced on aggravated battery charges

A Carbondale woman has been sentenced to prison on two separate aggravated battery charges.

LaQuinta M. Douglas, 31, was sentenced last week for her involvement in a pair of incidents - one in 2015 while she was an inmate at the Jackson County Jail, and the other late last summer in Carbondale.

State's Attorney Mike Carr says that in August 2015, Douglas battered another inmate following an argument at the jail. She pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and was sentenced to a one-year term of probation, with certain terms imposed by the court. The state filed a petition to revoke Douglas' probation after she failed to comply.

In August 2017, Carbondale Police were dispatched to an area near the intersection of Monroe and Poplar streets in Carbondale in response to a report of a fight involving two women. Police were advised that the victim had been stabbed. An eyewitness identified the assailant as Douglas, but she apparently had fled the area. Douglas eventually entered a plea of guilty to the new charge.

Douglas was sentenced to serve three years on each of the charges. The sentences are to be served concurrently and will be followed by a one-year period of supervised release.
