ELECTION 2020: Early voting starts Thursday in Perry County

Voting for the Nov. 3 presidential election begins in earnest on Thursday, as early voting for the November presidential election opens in Perry County.

Early voting will be done at the Perry County Clerk's office in Pinckneyville on weekdays and three Saturdays between Sept. 24 and Nov. 2 (the office is closed on Columbus Day, Oct. 12). The Saturday voting hours are 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 3, 17 and 31.

The clerk's office is in the Perry County Government Building, 3764 State Routes 13-127, Room 204.

The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the hours will be extended to 7 p.m. during early voting.

Also, on Tuesday, Oct. 27, early voting will be held at Du Quoin City Hall from 4 to 7 p.m.

Based on the number of calls the clerk's office has gotten about early voting, Clerk Beth Lipe is expecting a healthy turnout.

Also on Thursday, the Perry County Clerk's office will mail out absentee ballots to people who have requested them so far. The last day to apply for a vote by mail ballot is Thursday, Oct. 29.
