Carbondale Elementary School District 95 Board of Education Vice President Carlton Smith has been unseated in the April 6 consolidated election.

Smith was among five contenders for four District 95 board seats. With 100 percent of precincts reporting in the Jackson County unofficial results, Smith had 805 votes, behind challenger Erin Connelly with 972, incumbent board secretary Catherine Field with 960, incumbent board member Markida Roper with 930 and newcomer Corey Cawthon with 930. Total votes were 4,651. Incumbent board member Gary Shepherd was not seeking re-election.

Results remain unofficial until canvassed by election officials.

At last month's board meeting, Board President John Major said he intended to swear in the new board at the next meeting, at 7 p.m. on April 8 at the administrative center on Giant City Road.
