Ridge Fogerson receives Edna Sharp scholarship

Mrs. Edna M. Sharp was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Chester. She taught Sunday School lessons to countless children and adults in her lifetime; she shared her rich knowledge of Scripture and placed great value on learning and education.

After God called her home, her children, Dr. James Franklin Sharp and Rosanna Sharp Myers established a scholarship in her memory at her church home.

Since 2002, the Sharps have awarded $10,000 to young men and women of Chester's First Baptist. Each year, a graduating senior is selected to receive a $500 scholarship to assist them as they further their education.

On Aug. 29, Ridge T. Fogerson was named the 2021 recipient of this award. Ridge is the son of Dr. Michael and Pam Fogerson and is enrolled as a freshman student at the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C.

Ridge has been accepted into the Hunt Scholars Program, which is a five-year Masters of Divinity Accelerated program track. This allows him to complete his first year of studies on-line and beginning in August 2022, he will attend classes on campus.

The members of First Baptist thank Edna M. Sharp's family for their generosity and are happy her legacy lives on in the lives of the young people who have been recipients of this scholarship.
