Easter egg hunt a thrill for Chester families

It's over in a heartbeat, but the smiles last all day. Such was the case Saturday, April 2, when Chester's families came out to Cole Memorial Park for the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Spring Fair sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Committee.

Kids 10 and younger were split into four age groups to give the little ones a fighting chance, with each age group getting a shot at 750 eggs filled with candy and trinkets, according to Recreation Director Patti Carter.

As the cool morning turned into a beautiful day, Collette Powley continued her tradition of handing out goody bags to the kids, this year distributing 148.

But the fun wasn't over when the last egg was snatched up. The morning also included activities for the whole family. A rock painting station encouraged residents to paint a rock, take it home and hide it around town as part of the Rockin' in River City program.

Residents also could pick up birdhouse kits to construct at home and return to hang in the park as part of the Home tweet Home Birdhouse Project.

Folks from the Chester Public Library also were on hand to give out information on library programs and offer residents a chance to win a stuffed sloth.

Carter would like to thank the Chester Parks and Recreation Committee for making the day a success. "The committee came out in full force and made the event happen. They hid eggs, gave out prizes, took photos, mingled with hunters and shared information," Carter said.

Carter gave special shouts out to Jay Allison for preparing the park, assisting with setup and cleanup, as well as helping the bunny hide eggs, and to Terri Hirte "for doing what she does best."
