Fire destroys two structures in Carbondale

An early morning fire tore through two structures in Carbondale Saturday, although no one was injured.

Firefighters responded after 8 a.m. Aug. 27 to an apartment building fire in the 400 block of West Monroe Street. The fire also had spread to an adjacent house.

Firefighters said the fire started in the apartment building, which was abandoned. No injuries were reported in either the apartment building or the nearby house. No cause has been revealed.

Assisting the Carbondale Fire Department on the scene were firefighters from Murphysboro, Carbondale Township, Marion, Herrin, Carterville, Murphysboro-Pomona-Somerset Fire Protection District and Williamson County Fire Protection District.
