Kathryn Pippin of Marion

Marion resident Kathryn ("Kay" or "Kit") Pippin, 93, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15 at Parkway Manor in Marion after a few months of declining health.

She was born Nov. 12, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska to Ralph Ernest and Cecile (Jeffords) Waidelich.  

She graduated from Quincy High School in 1943, and attended Business College in Springfield. After World War II, she married her high school sweetheart, Paul Edwin Pippin, on July 27, 1946, in Springfield. They were married for 72 years until Paul's death on Oct. 28, 2018.

A very creative person, Kay enjoyed several activities. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and especially liked to take the Scouts camping. She took courses to learn cake decorating and prepared cakes, including wedding cakes, for people in the Marion area for many years.

She also learned how to do machine quilting, and for a number of years taught both cake decorating and machine quilting at John A. Logan Community College. 

Kay enjoyed traveling and she and husband, Paul, took many cruises to different parts of the world, the last one from India to Egypt. 

Survivors include their four children, son Mike (Lana) Pippin of Farmington, New Mexico; daughter Patty (Max) Borah of Fairhope, Alabama; son Steve (Barbara) Pippin of Louisville, Kentucky and son Eddie (Theresa) Pippin of Houston; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her only sibling, Ruth Lois French.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Internment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, at Stout Cemetery in Chatham, Illinois.
