Alma Louise Allen of Marion

Alma L. Allen, age 98, of Marion, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 6:38 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at her home.

She was born in Marion on Thursday, March 3, 1921, the daughter of John Sidney "Sid" and Mamie (Tanner) Dungey.

Alma attended school in Marion and was a graduate of Marion High School. She continued with her education by attending cosmetology school and became a licensed cosmetologist.

She worked for several of the area's beauty shops and owned and operated Alma's Beauty Shop at her home in Marion for many years. She also had worked for the Illinois Office of Unemployment in Herrin and for Olin Mathieson Munitions Company (now General Dynamics), for 20 years until her retirement.

She was united in marriage twice during her lifetime, the first being to Gene Eberhardt at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. After his death, she was later united in marriage to John Allen in Marion.

Alma was a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Marion, and at the time of her death was the oldest member. She enjoyed being involved in her Sunday school class led by Jim Turner.

Some of her other memberships include being a lifetime member of the Marion Heyde-Pillow V.F.W. Post No. 1301 Ladies Auxiliary and AARP.

In her spare time she enjoyed traveling and taking bus trips with her friends. She enjoyed listening to Christian music, watching birds visit her feeders and bird bath, and the television game shows "The Price Is Right," "Let's Make a Deal" and "Wheel of Fortune."

She loved cooking for and being with her family. She was always interested in all of their many activities. The many memories that have been created will now be cherished by those she leaves behind.

She is survived by her son, Don Eberhardt of Paducah, Kentucky and daughter, Sandie Fletcher of Marion; grandchildren, Deanne (Marty) Logsdon of Barlow, Kentucky, Drue Eberhardt of Louisville, Kentucky, Edie Eberhardt of Symsonia, Kentucky, Lindsey Eberhardt of Paducah, Kentucky, John (Christine) Fletcher of Marion, and Shandie Deaton of Marion; great grandchildren, Colter Deaton, Emily Logsdon, Andrew Logsdon, Emma Fletcher, Galina Gray, Olivia Eberhardt, Everly Eberhardt and Agatha "Aggie" Eberhardt; great-great grandchildren, Alexus Anderson, Cody Anderson, Tyler Gray, Noah Gray, Hadley Logsdon and one more who will be born in January 2020; niece, Brenda (Dwayne) Dreyer of Marion; many more nieces and nephews, other extended family and many friends.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son-in-law Shannon Lee Fletcher; sister Betty Carter and two brothers, Pershing and Daniel F. "Frank" Dungey.

Arrangements are being made by Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1201 N. Fair St., Marion.

Following the time of visitation, the memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Lance Leeds and James Turner presiding.

In lieu of flowers, Alma requested contributions be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church. They can be mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL 62959. Memorial envelopes will be available at the church and funeral home.
