Linda Sue Simpson of Harrisburg

Linda Sue Simpson, age 79 of Harrisburg, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Reflections Memory Care in Harrisburg.

Linda was born on Aug. 25, 1940 to Iva Lee "Pat" (Reeder) Perdue and John E. Bundren. She married Jack Simpson on Jan. 30, 1959. He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 2018.

Linda graduated from SIU in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in education. She taught in the Eldorado Elementary School system for over 30 years. Linda loved her children and grandchildren, theater, and traveling. She enjoyed going to the Fox Theater and the Madrigal productions at SIC. She could often be found on the sidelines at many sporting events cheering on her children and grandchildren while they played ball.

She also loved teaching. She tutored many students, taught College for Kids, and briefly taught in the GED program for the Illinois Youth Center.

Linda was nominated by former students and honored in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" multiple times. She was also formerly active in many philanthropic organizations including Delta Theta Tau Sorority, College Club, Alpha Delta Kappa, and CASA.

Linda is survived by four children: son, Richard (Rachael) Simpson of Beavercreek, Ohio; son, Robert Simpson of Carrier Mills; daughter-in-law, Tina Simpson; daughter, Rena (Matt) Fritch of Metropolis; and son Rhett (Jennifer) Simpson of Freeburg.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Ryan Simpson, Bret (Emily) Simpson, Emily (Dan) Roessner, Haley Simpson, Sam Simpson, Cullen Simpson, Braden Fritch, Karsyn Fritch, Reese Simpson and Jack Simpson; six great-grandchildren, Sophia Simpson, Olivia Simpson, Jack Roessner, Evelyn Roessner, Elaine Roessner and Clare Roessner; sister, Betty Meadows of Michigan; sister, Theresa Bundren of Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; mother, "Pat"; father, John E. Bundren; stepfather, Clyde Perdue; brother, John R. "Bob" Bundren; and niece, Debbie Allen.

Private funeral services will be held for Linda Sue Simpson on Sunday, June 28, officiated by the Rev. Biff Moore. Burial will follow in Ingram Hill Cemetery.
