Jean M. Heaton, formerly of Equality

Jean M. Heaton, 87 years old, passed away on Aug. 7, 2020 at Pacifica Senior Living-Riverside, in California, where she had been a resident since 2009. Jean died from the coronavirus.

She was a retired early childhood educator. She was a professor at San Francisco State University 1961-1994. She received her doctorate in Child Development and Early Childhood Education at Florida State University.

Jean, the daughter of the late Lytle and Loretta (Drone) Mossman, was born in Equality on Feb. 27, 1933.

Jean married Fred T. Heaton on June 10, 1954. They had three children, Frederick Lee, Laura Ann and Sheri Renee. Freddy Lee died on Jan. 25, 1990.

Jean and Fred divorced in December of 1979. Jean resided in Burlingame, California until her second marriage in 1987.

Jean married Michel Marticorena on March 4, 1987 and they resided in Redwood City, California. Following their divorce on Sept. 11, 2003, Jean moved to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek, California where she resided until June 3, 2009, when she moved to Atria, a retirement care facility in Burlingame, California.

On Dec. 15, 2009 Jean moved to Pacifica Senior Living (an Alzheimer's care facility) in southern California.

Jean is survived by her two daughters, Lauren Heaton Jones (Laura Ann) and Taylor Heaton Brakeman (Sheri Renee); five grandchildren, Garrett, Christopher and Christina Jones, and Madeline Halley and Rebecca Jean Brakeman; her sister, Mary M. Storment; nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.
