Carol Elizabeth Simpson, formerly of Harrisburg

Carol Elizabeth Simpson, age 78 of Mason City, Illinois and formerly of Harrisburg, passed away at 1:03 a.m. Sept. 9, 2020 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, Illinois.

Carol was born on March 10, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa, to the late Lester LaVerne and Gladys Adella (Thomas) Larsen. On Oct. 5, 1963 she married James Gordon Simpson and he preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 2014.

Carol was a member of the Buena Vista Community Church and formerly served on the Harrisburg Golden Circle Senior Citizens Council.

Carol and James were each others' worlds; they loved to travel together to Southern Gospel concerts and quartet conventions in the Great Smoky Mountains as well as other places. They were avid Cardinal baseball fans and enjoyed watching all kinds of sporting events on television.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Craig) Bergman of Mason City; sister-in-law, LeAnn Larsen of Welton, Iowa; special niece, Pat (Brian) Torode of Goose Lake, Iowa; special great-nephews, Tom Torode and Dan Torode of Centerville, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Carol was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Larsen.

A graveside memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020 at Ingram Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg. The Rev. Biff Moore will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Buena Vista Community Church or the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
