Ruth Jean Tiller of Steeleville

Ruth Jean Tiller, 85, of Steeleville, passed away at 9:37 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, at her home.

Ruth was born in Chester, Illinois, on Aug. 15, 1935, the daughter of Ludwig and Emma Hartenberger Schroeder. She married Charles Harold Tiller on June 26, 1954 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Chester. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2019.

Ruth was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville; B.B.K. American Legion Auxiliary Post #480, Steeleville and the Steeleville Eagles Auxiliary Aeries #3960.

Ruth is survived by a daughter, Jeri (Burt) Chandler of Newburn, Tennessee; daughter-in-law Pam Tiller of Chester; son-in-law Greg Vallett of Steeleville; grandchildren, Jason (Celine) Vallett, Julie (Joe) Wickwire, Benjamin (Rachael) Tiller, Emma and Ellie Chandler; and great-grandchildren, Daisy (Cadin Patterson) Vallett, Colin Vallett and Jace Owen Wickwire.

Besides her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Charles R. Tiller; one daughter, Sharon Vallett; four brothers; and one sister.

Graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, at Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville, with the Rev. Mark Harris officiating. Burial will follow.

Memorials may be given to St. Mark's Lutheran School.
