Rex Allen Gregory of Du Quoin

Rex Allen Gregory, 63, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:29 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 at his residence.

Rex was born April 19, 1957 in Du Quoin, Illinois, the son of Clifford and Lettie (Stanhouse) Gregory. He attended First Christian Church of Du Quoin.

He is survived by a son, Nolan (Samantha) Gregory of Du Quoin; a daughter, Diana (Anthony) Howell of Cobden, Illinois; four loving grandchildren, Makenzie Howell, Mitchell Howell, Matthew Howell and Iliana Gregory; three brothers, Clifford (Doris) Gregory Jr. of Du Quoin, Randy (Jaci) Gregory of Sunfield, Illinois and Mark Gregory of Elkville, Illinois; two sisters, Tammy (Danny) Foster of Du Quoin and Stacey (Terry) Arnett of Dowell, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

Rex graduated from Du Quoin High School in 1975. After high school Rex served six years and eight months in the United States Army, with a rank of SP4. He was stationed in Germany and at Fort Benning, Georgia as a heavy construction equipment operator. After leaving the military he attended Rend Lake Community College.

Rex worked as a forklift operator for Continental General Tire, as an operator in the Local 520 Operating Engineers and as a forklift operator for Gilster-Mary Lee.

His hobbies included a love for the outdoors, where he could spend his time fishing and hunting. If you ever had a chance to meet Rex, you knew he also loved the game of baseball and the Houston Astros.

Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Mulkeytown with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask and is asked to use social distancing guidelines.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion, and the Army National Guard.

Friends are invited to make memorials to American Heart Association and NubAbility Athletics Foundation. These will be accepted at the funeral home.
