Rebecca Lea Galeski of Steeleville

Rebecca Lea Galeski, 64, of Steeleville, Illinois, passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021 at her residence.

She was born to the late John "Bill" and Mary E. (nee Blare) Matheney on July 2, 1956 in Bremerhaven, Germany.

Rebecca married William "Bill" C. Galeski on June 10, 1972 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Chester, Illinois; he survives.

She worked in the home health field as a caregiver.

Rebecca was a member of First Baptist Church in Steeleville.

She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Galeski of Steeleville; three children, Maria C. Smith of Steeleville, Jason (Becky) Galeski of Columbia, Illinois and Marc Galeski of Olathe, Kansas; two sisters, Holly (Danny) Berry of Rusk, Texas and Barbara Walker of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; the sisters-in-law, Betty (Phil) Phelps of Florida, Rosemary (Earl) Draves of Red Bud, Illinois and Ann Thompson of Aurora, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Taylor Creekmore, Katie Wilson, Holt Smith, Grace Galeski, Brooke Galeski, Hayden Galeski, Cole Galeski and Luke Nax; one great-grandchild, Aubree Creekmore; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Patricia Heintz; and three brothers-in-law, Bobby Walker, Paul Hayes and John Thompson.

It was Rebecca's wish to be cremated.

A memorial service for Rebecca Lea Galeski will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at First Baptist Church, 1315 W. Shawneetown Trail in Steeleville, Illinois, with Pastor Matt Collins officiating.

Memorial contributions in Rebecca's memory are suggested to First Baptist Church in Steeleville, Illinois. They are being accepted at Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester.
