Leonard Eugene Butler of Harrisburg

Leonard Eugene Butler, age 88, of Harrisburg, passed away at 8:15 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021.

Leonard was born on June 18, 1932 to the late Clyde and Verna (Crank) Butler. On Aug. 30, 1959. Leonard married Norma Geraldine Vinyard, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 2013. He served his country as a United States Marine, where he excelled as a marksman.

Leonard worked as a truck driver for Ellis Trucking in the 1960s. He spent the next 20-plus years working for AMAX Coal Co. Leonard was also a farmer and raised cattle. He loved to hunt, fish and drive his tractor. Leonard had high expectations for his family and was devoted to his wife, Geraldine. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the

Harrisburg Masonic Lodge and he was a former member of the Egyptian Shrine Club. Leonard was a devout, die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Leonard is survived by his daughter, Debra Goldstein of Los Alamos, New Mexico and her three children, Sarah Goldstein of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Megan Goldstein of Seattle and Zachary Goldstein of Grand Forks, North Dakota; and daughter, Donna Bloodworth of New Burnside and her two sons, Casey Bloodworth of Marion and Corey Bloodworth of New Burnside.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine; and two brothers, Glendel Butler and Conard Butler.

Private services were held on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021. The Rev. Scott Johnson officiated and burial followed in Sunset Garden Cemetery.
