Geneva Ruth Weis of Du Quoin

Geneva Ruth Weis, 93, of Du Quoin, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the home of her daughter, Diane Marks, in Du Quoin.

Geneva had been a farmer's wife and homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. Geneva was a member of the XYZ church group, Euzelian Sunday school class and the PTA, and she was a school room mother.

She was born April 3, 1928 at Coulterville, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Ethel (Benson) Johnson.

She married Eugene C. Weis on Oct. 25, 1947 at Du Quoin, Illinois and he preceded her in death on June 8, 2016.

Geneva is survived by two daughters, Diane Kay (Terry) Marks and Delores Jean Williams, all of Du Quoin; one son, Gary (Cathy) Weis of Du Quoin; eight grandchildren, Jarod (Heather) Marks, Shawn (Rachel) Marks, Nathan (Grace) Marks, Bryce (Kari) Marks, Christi Weis, Heather (Josh) Wilson, Tyler Weis and Sarah Williams; and 15 great-grandchildren, Alex Carrow, Marina Carrow, Danni Kay Marks, Easton Marks, Roe Marks, Bly Marks, Mariah Marks, Kysen Marks, Emilia Marks, Bryce Ray, Raegan Ray, Mackenzie Jones, Mila Wilson, Tristen Weis and Saylor Weis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Roy Johnson.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

Everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask and to observe social distancing guidelines.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. They will be accepted at the funeral home.
