Helen M. Stanhouse of Du Quoin

Helen M. Stanhouse, 97, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:35 a.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at her residence.

Helen had been a homemaker and mother. She was of the Methodist faith. Helen was a Marine wife for 23 years, and she and her family traveled throughout the United States before settling back in her hometown of Du Quoin in 1967.

Helen loved to play golf and was a longtime member of the Perry County Country Club/Red Hawk. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Helen was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. and American Legion. She was a Du Quoin Township High School graduate of 1942.

Helen was born on Nov. 25, 1923 at Pinckneyville, Illinois, the daughter of Alvin and Ethel (Crain) Ashauer.

She married James W. Stanhouse on Jan. 25, 1945 at the Methodist Church in Du Quoin and he preceded her in death on April 3, 2015.

She is survived by three sons, Michael (Pongy) Stanhouse of Killeen, Texas, James A. (Donna) Stanhouse of Du Quoin and John (Toni Kay) Stanhouse of St. Johns, Illinois; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.

Per Helen's request, cremation rites were accorded. There will be no public visitation or funeral service. Inurnment will be in the Jefferson Barracks Cemetery at a later date.

Friends may make memorials to the Perry County Humane Society, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
