Maredith May Belle McDaniel, formerly of Pinckneyville

Maredith McDaniel (Stein) was born Feb. 15, 1946 to Sylvester and Hilda Stein in Pinckneyville, Illinois. Our adored Maredith May Belle McDaniel passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

As a child, she was raised in Pinckneyville, where she graduated from Pinckneyville Community High School. A few years later she moved to Altamont, Illinois and in 1981 she moved to Merced, California with World Color Press, where she worked in Human Resources.

Seeing a niche in the industry and having an entrepreneurial drive, she co-founded a business called Health Tech, which contracted with industries to perform preemployment physicals. After she sold her business, she joined the Central Valley Coalition for Affordable Housing where she worked to her last day.

Maredith was a terrific home decorator, artist and gardener, and many people had the opportunity to tap into her many talents. She always had an infectious smile and carried herself with style and grace. She never had anything bad to say about anyone and could always find the positive in any situation.

She was the loving mother of two children, Daron McDaniel (Buffy) of Atwater, California and Shannon McDaniel-Knoop (Obbe) of Moraga, California; and grandmother to Corbett McDaniel, Connor McDaniel and Harper Knoop.

She also is survived by her "big" brothers, Frank Stein (Diane) of Pinckneyville and George Stein (Carolyn) of Millstadt, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her "big" sister Lavinia Vanetti (Donald).

Family, friends and others whose lives Maredith touched are invited to her memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Pyatt Funeral Home, 309 S. Main St., Pinckneyville, Illinois, with Father Augustine Ibezimako officiating. A private family interment will be held in Mueller Hill Cemetery in Pinckneyville.

Public visitation will be held prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, at Pyatt Funeral Home in Pinckneyville.
