Rose Marie Pestka of Scheller

Rose Marie Pestka, 89, of Scheller passed away at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, at her residence.

Rose Marie had been a cook at Marshall Browning Hospital for many years and also worked as a waitress at Travelers Restaurant. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Tamaroa and Catholic Daughters of Du Bois. Rose Marie was an avid painter.

She was born May 9, 1932, in Sheridan, Arkansas, the daughter of Leo and Zettie Zenith (Brown) Skorcz. She married Leo Pestka Sr. on July 21, 1951, in Pocahontas, Arkansas, and he preceded her in on death Aug. 9, 2015.

She is survived by her children, Leo J. Pestka Jr. of Scheller, Diana Majewski and husband Jim of Scheller, Kevin Pestka and wife Lydia of Scheller, Kathleen Rulevish and husband Ed of Scheller, David Pestka and wife Cathy of Tamaroa, Donald Pestka and wife Michelle of Scheller, and Christa Pestka and husband Kirk Wong of Marion; daughter-in-law Laura Pestka of Scheller; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother Ralph Skorcz of Chester; and four sisters-in-law, Agnes Baughman of Arnold, Mo., Jesse Pestka of Du Quoin, Jo Ann Skorcz of Tamaroa, and Nancy Crites Pestka of Du Quoin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Mark and Dean Pestka; two grandsons, Nathan Rulevish and Derek Majewski; and six brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tamaroa with Fr. Carl Schrage officiating. Friends called from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa. Burial was at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Tamaroa.
