Larry Dale Cullum of rural Elizabethtown

Larry Dale Cullum, 81, of rural route Elizabethtown, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare, Illinois.

Larry was born in Hardin County on May 6, 1940 to Ralph and Mayme (Baugher) Cullum. He was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Rosiclare.

Larry graduated from Rosiclare High School in 1957. He worked at several jobs before going into the military, where he served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965, working on helicopter control panels.

After the Army he worked in construction and in the mill at Ozark-Mahoning for several years until the plant closed. He then worked construction, building highways and bridges until he retired.

Larry loved the farm and took good care of the cows, first thing every morning, come rain or shine. The kids have special memories about time spent with their Uncle Larry, whether riding the four-wheeler to check on cows or chasing spring gobblers.

The right field foul line of the baseball field will not be the same without him. They were blessed to have him in their lives. We all loved his sense of humor and appreciated his kindness.

Larry loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends. He would take the entire month of December off just to quail hunt. Larry's special friend and lifetime buddy, Ronnie Armstrong, can tell you humorous stories about their many hunting trips together. We'd sure would like to enjoy one more covey rise with you. We will miss you, "Uncle Whitey."

Survivors include his brother, Bill: sister-in-law, Melba; nephews, Matt (Jessica) Cullum of Elizabethtown and Clay (Dena) Cullum of Rosiclare; a niece, Paula (Fabian) Lindsey of Chicago; great-nephews and great-nieces, Hunter, Bryson and Trevor Cullum, Jordan Fowler, Brett (Matt) Lewis, April (Steve) Dollins, Andrea (Kyle) Bebout and Desirae (Tim) Golden; and great-great nephews and nieces, Gabriel, Jaiden, Kaizlee, Abigail, Jessica, Tori, Ava, Kyleigh, Walker and Maggie.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mayme Cullum; a brother, Jim Cullum; and a great-niece, Briley Cullum.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the First Apostolic Church in Rosiclare, Illinois, followed by interment in Cullum Family Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Military rites will be given at the cemetery.
