Jack LaVerne Luthy of Du Quoin

Jack LaVerne Luthy, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:54 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Jack had been a farmer. He was a member of the Dowell Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Jack was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He was born April 17, 1935 in Percy, Illinois, the son of Henry Christopher and Marie Mae (Bagley) Luthy. He married Audrey Jane Hemmer on Aug. 15, 1954 at the Paradise Baptist Church in Tamaroa; and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; four children, Janice (Stan) Zakinski of Du Quoin, Jackie (Wayne) Mills of New Douglas, Illinois, David (Andrea) Luthy of Du Quoin, and Joe (Christina) Luthy of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two brothers, Dan (Diana) Luthy of Willisville, Illinois and Bill (Peggy) Luthy of Pinckneyville, Illinois; one sister, Sherilyn (Ed) Bruns of Pinckneyville; eight grandchildren, Jenni (Kenny) Cook, Jesse (Karley) Zakinski, Jennifer (Roger) Church, Debi Mills, Summer (Matt) Vanderbilt, Caseton (Ayla) Luthy, Abbey Luthy and Brittany (Jacob) Stanton; and six great-grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Luthy; and one sister in infancy, Carolyn Luthy.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the Dowell Baptist Church in Dowell with the Rev. Phillip White officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 8 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, and again from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church.

Burial will be in the McElvain Cemetery in Du Quoin. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion, and the U.S. Air Force.
