William 'Bill' Cox of Herod

William "Bill" Cox, age 78, of Herod, Illinois, passed away May 19, 2022, at home.

Bill was born March 12, 1944 to Sol and Normia Marie (Hooten) Cox in Herod. He was a man of many interests. Bill had a love for history, specifically Southern history, but his first love was for all things horses. He started out riding and training those horses. Those early days developed into a later passion for horse trading, and even later for breeding and raising Morgans.

Bill loved building things and was proud to be good enough to be asked to join his Grandpa Fred's carpentry crew. He continued that love of building his entire life through his building projects and furniture.

Farming was a lifelong endeavor, from helping his dad as a young boy, to being a 13-year-old man helping the Joiner ladies keep their farm when Oral passed, to farming for himself with his brother-in-law Steve Reed Jr., and later with his son, Billy. As he farmed with Billy, it fueled their passion for collecting and restoring old tractors. He was always on the hunt for those tractors. He and Billy were proud to have brought more than 40 tractors back to life and into service.

Bill was a member and trustee of Good Hope Church and trustee of the Good Hope Cemetery.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carolyn B. (Joiner) Cox; daughter, Rhonda Sue (Kevin Dean) Dutton; son, Billy Gene (Fredda Charlene Daymon) Cox; grandchildren, Laura Susan (Tommy) Harville, Kailey Robin Dutton; Amanda Elizabeth (Jaden) Littlefield, Julie Deanne (Elijah) Connatser, and Allison Breanne (Tristan) Flannigan; great-grandchildren, Jameson Thomas Harville, Briley Kate Harville, Joel Daniel Littlefield, Hadley Jane Harville, and William David Littlefield; brother, Charles Deneen (Patricia Baldwin) Cox; and sisters, Norma Jean Asbell and Irma Lee (Bill) Logan.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Good Hope Church in Herod, conducted by Rev. Steve Dunn. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Hope Cemetery.
