Max Wesley Kendall of Harrisburg

Max Wesley Kendall, 78, of Harrisburg, passed away at 9:29 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

Max was born Sept. 9, 1943, in Harrisburg to the late James Wesley and Ella Mae (McKinney) Kendall. On March 14, 1964, he married Carolyn Sue Roberts, and she survives in Harrisburg.

Max was a good provider and a loving husband, father and "Papa Max."

He was a member of Mizpah Baptist Church of Harrisburg and the United Mine Workers of America. Max worked for Peabody Coal Company for more than 30 years, most recently at the Marissa Mine. He was an avid Harrisburg Bulldogs supporter. He was the scorekeeper and bookkeeper for the Harrisburg High School Bulldogs football, basketball and baseball games.

Max is survived by his wife, Sue of Harrisburg; two daughters, Monti (Larry) Jones of Harrisburg and Marci Byrd of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Amanda (Shane) Stovall of Carrier Mills, Aaron (Raven) Horton of Carrier Mills, Dylan (Gracie) Byrd of Harrisburg, Devyn Byrd of Harrisburg and Jada Jones of Rantoul; and eight great-grandchildren, Briley, Kiley, Makenna, Easton, Audriana, Colt, Wrenlee and Noah.

Max was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Kendall.

Funeral services for Max Wesley Kendall were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, at Stricklin Funeral Home (formerly Reed Funeral Chapel) in Harrisburg, officiated by the Rev. Carol Collins.

Burial followed at Liberty Cemetery. Visitation was held from noon to 2 p.m. immediately prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Harrisburg High School Athletics, and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
