Fifth Division Junior Legion bracket announced

In the midst of the hottest heat of the summer thus far, the 5th Division Junior Legion Baseball Tournament begins Friday with eight games at two sites in Pinckneyville and Steeleville.

Despite being eliminated from the 25th District Tournament by Chester, Pinckneyville-Du Quoin earned a berth in the division tournament due to being one of the host sites.

Top seeds of the tournament are Steeleville (25th District), Valmeyer (22nd District) and Salem (23rd District).

The winner of Game 19 will be the No. 1 seed in American Junior Legion state tournament, which will be held July 27-30 at Salem. The loser of that game will be the No. 2 seed.

The winner of Game 20 will be the No. 3 seed at the state tournament.

Full pairings are as follows. Games at Pinckneyville are designated (P), while games at Steeleville are designated (S).
