Hoops time in Ottumwa: JALC men open the season at the Indian Hills Classic

CARTERVILLE - Snowy Iowa will form the backdrop for some outstanding basketball as John A. Logan opens the season with two games in the Indian Hills Classic in Ottumwa, IA. The forecast is for snow and great basketball.

The Volunteers first game will be Friday, 4:30 p.m. against Otero of Colorado. Otero was 20-10 last season while the Vols finished 27-5.

On Saturday, Logan will go against Indian Hills in a 7 p.m. game. Logan is ranked fourth nationally while Indian Hills is ranked sixth. The Warriors are particularly tough on their home court with a record of 77-6 over the last four seasons.

The Volunteers will be led by All-American Jay Scrubb who was selected as the preseason national Player of the Year by Sports Illustrated. He averaged 20 points and 9 rebounds per game. Scrubb has committed to Louisville for next season.

Indian Hills, 27-7 last season, will be led by Tyon Grant-Foster who has committed to Kansas. The Warriors will play Pratt College on Friday.

"This tournament has outstanding teams," said Logan coach Kyle Smithpeters. "We want to play good teams and Otero and Indian Hills are both outstanding teams."
