CHS boys golf Jackets prepare to host Chester Invitational on Sept. 2

The Chester High School Boys Golf Team began its 2021 season on Thursday, Aug. 12.

<b>Anna Invitational</b>

The boys traveled to the Anna-Jonesboro Invitational on Aug. 12, held at the Union County Country Club. Chester's Kaden Freytag led the Jackets with a round of 88 (+17). Chance Mott was the No. 2 golfer for Chester with a round of 92 (+21) followed by Gage Hasemeyer 97 (+26), Clayton Andrews 98 (+27), Luke Miller 100 (+29), and Lucas Thompson 115 (+44). These scores are for the 18-hole match.

<b>CHS hosts triangular</b>

Chester hosted a triangular match with Steeleville and Gibault on Aug. 17 at the Chester Country Club. The Jackets lost to both the Warriors and the Hawks. Steeleville's Avery Hamilton was the medalist in the 9-hole event with a score of 37 (+1). Chance Mott led the Varsity Yellow Jackets with a score of 42 (+6). Clayton Andrews 43 (+7), Isaiah Ferrell 46 (+10), and Aidan Blechle 48 (+ 12) each recorder personal-best outings for the day. Other varsity golfers included Kaden Freytag 45 (+9), Gage Hasemeyer 48 (+12), Lucas Thompson 50 (+14), and Luke Miller 51 (+15).

In the JV Division, Noah Homan shot 49 (+13), Max Blechle shot 58 (+22), and Evan Dunning shot 58 (+22).

<b>On to Red Bud</b>

On Aug. 18 Chester competed in a dual match at Red Bud North County Golf Course. The Yellow Jackets won the contest, 163-194 to improve to 8-7 for the season. Two Chester boys, Kaden Freytag and Chance Mott, shared low medalist honors with rounds of 39 (+4). Gage Hasemeyer had a new personal-best performance with his nine-hole round of 40 (+5). Also shooting PR's were JV players Noah Homan 43 (+8), Isaiah Ferrell 44 (+9), Max Blechle 53 (+18), and Evan Dunning 53 (+18).

Other Varsity Yellow Jacket scores were Clayton Andrews 45 (+10), Luke Miller 47 (+12) and Lucas Thompson 47 (+12). JV player Aidan Blechle shot 51 (+16).

<b>CHS wins triangular</b>

The Chester boys defeated both Zeigler-Royalton and Cobden in a triangular match at Chester Country Club on Aug. 19 to improve to 10-7 on the year. Chester's Kaden Freytag was the low medalist with his game of 42 strokes (+6). This was his second medalist honor of the season.

Other varsity scores include Clayton Andrews 43 (+7), Chance Mott 44 (+8), Gage Hasemeyer 45 (+9), Noah Homan 48 (+12), and Luke Miller 53 (+17).

JV Jacket scores were Lucas Thompson 48 (+12), Aidan Blechle 55 (+19), Evan Dunning 57 (+21), Isaiah Ferrell 61 (+25), and Max Blechle 64 (+28).

<b>CHS boys split</b>

On Aug. 26 the Jackets hosted a triangular match with Cobden and Steeleville. Chester lost to Steeleville and beat Cobden. Team scores were Steeleville 163, Chester 167, and Cobden 264. With the win the Jackets improved to 11-8 for the season. Jack Knop of Steeleville was medalist with his score of 35, one under par.

Chester scores were Chance Mott with 39 (+3). Three Yellow Jackets had new personal-best games including Clayton Andrews 40 (+4), Luke Miller 42 (+6), and Lucas Thompson 43 (+7).

Other varsity scores were Gage Hasemeyer 45 (+9), Kaden Freytag 47 (+11), and Noah Homan 53 (+17). JV scores included Aidan Blechle 48 (+12), Isaiah Ferrell 53 (+17). Evan Dunning 55 (+19), and Max Blechle 56 (+20).

<b>CHS visits Marissa</b>

The Yellow Jackets traveled to Marissa on Aug. 27 for a quadrangular match with Marissa, Gibault and New Athens. The Meteors won the match with a score of 170. Chester and Gibault tied with 175 each, while New Athens finished with 212. Caleb Trieb of Marissa was medalist with his round of 35 (-1). With the one win Chester improved to 12-9-1 for 2021.

Gage Hasemeyer led the Jackets for the first time this season with his round of 41 (+5). Kaden Freytag and Clayton Andrews each shot 44 (+8). Chance Mott and Lucas Thompson were just one stroke apart, Mott with 46 (+10) and Thompson with 47 (+11). Noah Homan shot 51 (+15).

The boys were rained out Aug. 30 at the St. Claire Country Club where they were competing in a dual match with Freeburg. CHS will host Okawville Aug. 31 at 4 p.m. at the Chester Country Club.

<i>On Sept. 2 the Jackets will host the Annual Chester Invitational at the CCC, with eight other teams: Marissa, Murphysboro, New Athens, Red Bud, Sparta, Steeleville, Trico and Zeigler-Royalton. Tee time is 4 p.m.</i>
