CHS Project Graduation Parents to hold massive yard sale

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Chester High School senior parents met Sunday January 23 to further discuss the 2011 CHS Project Graduation. It was the third such meeting of the parents since the beginning of the year and plans are well underway for the all night drug, alcohol and tobacco-free graduation party.

To date the parents have conducted several fund-raising events such as the Yankee Candle sales, Tupperware sales, Kitchen Aid small appliance raffle donated by Young's Appliance in Chester and the Little Caesar Pizza Fundraiser event.

CHS Project Graduation Coordinator, Dr. Jim beers, notes that about 25 of the 77 parental units of the seniors in the Class of 2011 have been great with their fundraising efforts.

"I wish we had more cooperation and participation from the other 52 parental units but the parents that have been attending meetings and volunteering to manage the various aspects of Project Graduation have been fantastic and working very hard".

The next fundraiser will be a delicious chicken dinner hosted in conjunction with the Chester Eagles Club. The annual event will take place Sunday February 13 from 11:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m.

The menu will include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad, cold and hot drinks and a wide variety of home-baked pies, cakes and other tasty treats. The cost for the all-you-can-eat meal is only $8.00 and directly benefits the CHS senior class.

Beers stated, "The Eagles have always been very supportive of Project Graduation and that they go above and beyond what is expected to support the students in their quest for a safe graduation party". "We really appreciate the efforts of the Eagles and know that we can always count on their kind, most gracious offer to host the annual chicken dinner".

The dinner will also include a gift basket give-away and most likely a 50/50 drawing. Since the dinner is the day before Valentines Day the Project Graduation ladies hope to offer a bit of romantic atmosphere including music, fine food and a little pampering of all guests. Carry outs and delivery will be available.

The next fundraiser following the chicken dinner will be a massive yard sale Saturday march 26th at the St. John Parish Hall Community Center. Joby Petrowske is the chairwoman for this fundraiser and has much experience organizing this event.

Petrowske notes that many items are needed to make this fundraiser a financial success. Senior parents are strongly encouraged to call her at 618-826-2176 at her home or 618-826-5000, ext. 153 at her work to volunteer to work at the event or especially to donate items for sale at the yard sale.

"Don't hesitate to ask friends or relatives to donate items. It is an excellent time to do some spring cleaning or to get rid of some items that you no longer need". Petrowske states that items can be brought to the Parish Hall Friday evening anytime after 4:00 p.m. "Items do not have to be priced and arrangements can be made for a member of the senior class to pick up items if necessary", said Petrowske.

All members of the class of 2011 are needed to donate items and workers will be needed to man the massive yard sale both Friday evening March 25th setting up and Saturday throughout the yard sale. Volunteers are asked to call Petrowske to commit to item donations and/or to volunteer to work.

The final major fundraiser will be the ever-popular Fish Fry at the Chester Knights of Columbus Hall. The event is April 1st and will run from 4:00 p.m. till approximately 8:00 p.m.

The Knights of Columbus are very dependable to offer a fish fry for Project Graduation each year and their hospitality is always appreciated by both students and parents alike.

The 2011 fish fry will be arranged just like the weekly K.C. fish fries with a menu of all-you-can-eat fish, shrimp, fries, baked potatoes, salads and bread. The senior parents will bake homemade pies, cakes and other baked goods to offer as a delicious desert which is an added attraction that is not typically offered at the regular fish fries.

Patrons will also have the opportunity to purchase a variety of beverages from the K.C. bar. Iced tea, lemonade and coffee are included in the price of the meal. The K.C. fish fries are always a crowd favorite and the support of the K.C.'s is greatly appreciated by the Project Graduation parents and students.
