Two away games buy contractors two weeks on VanMetre renovation

A Du Quoin varsity football schedule that starts with two away games will buy contractors for the new restrooms at VanMetre Field an extra two weeks to complete the work.

Chase Porter of Porter Construction said, "We'll get it done."

The new restrooms will be located under the seating on the east side opposite the concession stand, which is being enlarged. There will be a new arched entrance with no plans to replace the ticket windows. Ticket sellers may be sitting at tables. The press box will get new metal vertical siding and a handful of floor and window improvements.

Du Quoin opens at Highland on Aug. 30, then goes to Harrisburg Sept. 6. For early freshman games, etc. fans may have to use other entrances and the facilities across the field at the baseball stadium. New fencing will be installed. The total contract for all work in these area is $167,824.
