First $8.4 million from Perry County real estate taxes to be distributed by weekend
Perry County Treasurer Bill Taylor said Tuesday his office is halfway there on collecting the county's 2012 real estate taxes payable in 2013.
The first installment was due Aug. 2. The second installment is due Sept. 6.
Persons who did not make the first payment on time are subject to a late penalty.
Taylor said the county has collected $8.4 million of the current tax liability and will write checks to the various towns, schools and special districts which levied for the money.
The checks should be in the hands of the districts no later than the first of the week.
You can make your real estate tax payments by mail, at local banks, at the treasurer's office or place them in a special locked drop box on the parking lot at the government building south of Pinckneyville.
