Du Quoin Ministerial Alliance holiday gift card program saved by contributions

Two weeks ago, the newspaper ran a story that the Weekend Warriors food program for kids may not be able to give Du Quoin school children the $20 gift cards that usually go home with kids in their sacks the last day before Christmas break.

Du Quoin Ministerial Alliance secretary-treasurer Donna Blythe said since then, the program has received several donations.

Providing $20 gift cards to roughly 120 students costs the alliance $1,400 and the participating churches the remaining $1,400.

Donna says recent donations pushed the fund back to over $3,000, enough to help fund next year's program.
