Mother Goose & Friends at Du Quoin Library this Thursday at 6 p.m.; All Angel Tree tags taken

Mother Goose and her friends are coming to the hamlet of Du Quoin on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m.

This FREE event will be held in the Du Quoin Public Library next to city hall.

The evening is made possible by the Illinois State Library, a division of the office of Sec. of State Jesse White.

A nursery necessity and childhood favorite, Mother Goose is a household name and the writer of dozens of well-known nursery rhymes like Baa Baa Black Sheep, Jack and Jill Went Up the Hill, Pat-a-Cake, and Three Blind Mice.

According to most historians, the author "Mother Goose" was not a real person. The name was likely given as something of a generic moniker for an "everywoman" type person. The rhymes and fairy tales attributed to "her" were actually written by numerous authors, both men and women, and handed down in the form of folk tales for generations.
