Giving back: Red Hawk members golf to raise cash for course repairs
Golfers had a great time on Saturday afternoon for the second annual Red Hawk Classic. "We had 40 brave souls who weathered the windy conditions! The membership generously raised $2,000 for the improvement and beautification fund. The money will be well spent to keep conditions at the facility top rate," said course owner Dan Breslin.
The winner of the scramble was the team of Roger Seibert, Denny Lingle, Gayland Chancey and Tom Metten with a score of 61. They unselfishly gave back their winnings to the committee.
Other awards were: Closest to the pin - #3 - Roger Seibert, #10 and #11 Vicki Weatherford, #18 Mark McDaniel. Longest drive winners were for the men Roger Seibert and the women Michelle Breslin.
"Michelle and I from the bottom of our hearts want to thank everyone for their tremendous effort and contribution to continue making Red Hawk a great place," Breslin said.
"This was our second Red Hawk Classic! It was started by some of our members hoping to make upgrades to the facility. These members are unbelievable. Their concern for the golf course and my family is mind boggling! This act of unselfishness and compassion is one of the many reasons we love southern Illinois!"
"One thing most people do not realize is that Red Hawk raises more than $120,000 for schools, hospitals, churches, charitable organizations, families and Individuals who need help! This a huge way for the recipients to give back," he said.
