Du Quoin Insurance Co. Building Being Demolished Today

Excavating contractor Dennis George Thursday made quick work of demolishing the Du Quoin Insurance Agency building at 110 East Main Street in downtown Du Quoin. The demolition is significant. It was the very last of the original wood-framed merchant shops on Main Street. When the next door J.J.Higgins Jewelry building was demolished last spring after an inside wall fell in, it left the east wall of the insurance building exposed. Owner Ronnell Karoski and her family came to the tough decision it was more cost-effective to have the building torn down than to repair.

Dennis George of George's Excavating on Wednesday off-loaded equipment onto East Main Street in Du Quoin to begin demolition of the Du Quoin Insurance Co. building.
