City may form sales tax district

The Du Quoin city council meets in special session tonight at 6 p.m. at city hall.

The purpose of this special meeting of the Du Quoin City Council is to discuss formation of a Sales Tax Business District and to review for approval an agreement with Economic Development Resources to initiate the formation of that district.

The measure could create a special district along Rt. 51 south of Du Quoin where a portion of a special sales tax could be rebated back to a business--for instance where the Kroger store was located--to help develop that business.

2. Discuss formation of a Sales Tax Business District.

3. Review and approve an agreement with Economic Development Resources to initiate the formation of Sales Tax district.
