<p class="p1">CORN FEST
<p class="p1">If good food, good music and a good time are on your to-do list don't miss the 55<sup>th</sup> annual Corn Fest at the historic eight-sided, one-room Charter Oak School on Saturday, August 6.
<p class="p1">The Randolph County Historical Society is preparing a feast of fried chicken, sliced tomatoes, all you can eat corn on the cob (on-site), Indian corn pudding, ice cream, and beverage for $9 for adults, $5 for ages 4-10, and 4 years and younger eat free.
<p class="p1">Serving begins at 4 p.m. The festivities include period music, school tours, and a country store with fresh home baked goods, home canned goods and fresh garden produce available for purchase.
<p class="p1">Charter Oak School is located at 9272 Schuline Road in Schuline.
<p class="p1">ARCHAEOLOGY DAY
<p class="p2">Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site offers visitors a chance on Saturday, Aug. 6 to learn ancient skills like making stone tools and throwing spears and then to see how archaeologists dig up the facts about ancient cultures.
<p class="p2">Archaeology Day will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event features craft demonstrations, archaeological techniques and artifact processing, tours of excavations, and several hands-on activities.
<p class="p2">Experts will demonstrate making a bow and arrow, turning flint into arrowheads and tools, carving stone, weaving and spinning fibers.
<p class="p2">Visitors can also try their hand at playing the Native American "chunkey" game or throwing spears with an atlatl spear-thrower.
<p class="p2">Visitors can tour archaeological excavations, sift soils from the digs and help wash artifacts found during excavations.
<p class="p2">Archaeologists and specialists will demonstrate techniques such as identifying animal bones. Displays with representatives from other archeological sites and institutions will be set up.
<p class="p2">Food and refreshment stands will be available, including kettle "maize." In case of rain, most of the activities will move inside the Interpretive Center.
<p class="p2">BLUE-GRAY CHALLENGE
<p class="p2">Opening ceremonies for the 117th annual Grand American World Trapshooting Championships take place Monday evening at the grandstands at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta.
<p class="p2">Presented by White Flyer, the top five All-Americans and top five category All-Americans from North and South will battle it out in a shootout with 25 team handicaps targets each.
<p class="p2">Team total scores decide the champions and shooters will be announced with shooting accomplishments and sponsors.
<p class="p2">Fireworks will take place after the competition. Attendance awards will also be given out, as the Amateur Trapshooting Association will present emblems to shooters who have attended the Grand American 25 or more times.
