'Action Week' starts Sept. 23 at Pinckneyville church

Members of First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville have a full week of community service events planned for Sept. 23 - 29.

The goal of the annual event its show the community and neighbors visible, tangible love in practical ways. All events are free to the public.

The Lord Jesus met physical needs through signs and miracles to demonstrate His love and to invite people to place their faith in Him for the forgiveness of their sins.

This is the fourth year that the church has held community events to benefit people. This year's events include:

Monday, Sept. 23

•Free coffee at McDonalds from 5:00 to 8:00 a.m.

•Laundry outreach at Orchard Apartments from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Quarters and detergent will be provided for the residents.

Tuesday, Sept. 24

•International Student Dinner at SIU Carbondale

•Ice cream coupon give away at main intersections into the square from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Coupons provided by the Pinckneyville McDonalds.

Wednesday, Sept. 25

•Free coffee at Dixie's from 5:00 to 8:00 a.m.

•Car wash from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Pinckneyville Ambulance Service parking lot. Adults and youth will wash cars and children will hand out water and lemonade.

•Discounted gas ($.20 off/gallon) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Moto Mart.

Thursday, Sept. 26

•Laundry outreach at Victory Addition from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Quarters and detergent will be provided for the residents.

•Yard clean up starting at 5:00 p.m. Call the church (618) 357-2255 to request light yard work.

Friday, Sept. 27

•Yard clean up starting at 8:00 a.m. Call the church office to request light yard work.

Saturday, Sept. 28

•Laundry outreach starting at 8:00 a.m. at Handee Mart. Quarters and detergent will be provided.

•Veterans lunch at noon at the church. Reservations not required, but requested. Call the church office at (618) 357-2255. Veterans and spouses are both welcome for this lunch honoring their service. Small gifts of appreciation for service will also be given out.

Sunday, Sept. 29

•Everyone is invited to a church service at Pinckneyville Park exhibition hall at 11:00 a.m. Come causal and enjoy the music and encouraging teaching followed by a free lunch, games for kids, and a cake-walk.
