Law a family affair for the Campanellas: Calen Campanella joins brother Jordan in Du Quoin law office
Law is a family affair for the Honorable Judge James Campanella, wife Kathy and sons Jordan and Calen, as the new sign "Campanella and Campanella--Brothers at Law" went up at their 108 East Main Street suite of law offices this week.
Jordan, 28, opened his law practice in 2011 and late last year was joined by brother Calen, 26, who was graduated from the St. Louis School of Law in 2013. Judge Campanella's wife, Kathy, is a retired educator from the business department at the Du Quoin High School who taught for and has signed on in retirement as her sons' legal secretary.
Their father, James Campanella, was born and raised in Du Quoin where his parents, Carl and Lenora Campanella, ran a well-traveled mom and pop grocery store and fresh meat market known as Campy's Market for 54 years. Jim graduated from Marshall Law School, joined the Peek & Gandy law firm in the late 1970s and went into private practice in 1985.
Jim was appointed to the bench by the Illinois Supreme Court after the retirement of Judge Robert Gandy and became the resident Circuit Judge in Perry County in 1995. He is entering his 19th year on the bench.
After graduating from Du Quoin High School, Jordan attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston on a football scholarship. He played tight end for the Panthers for four years and majored in political science. He then went on to study law at Saint Louis University and graduated in 2011. Jordan began practicing law by opening his own law firm. Jordan is engaged to Du Quoin Dist. 300 art instructor Candace Manning and they are planning an October wedding.
After graduating from Du Quoin High School, Calen attended the University of Illinois College of Business in Champaign on an academic scholarship. He was part of the Business Honors Program, the vice president of Business Council and received the honor of being named the class valedictorian (a perfect 4.0 GPA) after four years of study. While at Illinois, he double majored in finance and accounting. He then joined his brother, Jordan, at St. Louis University School of Law and graduated in the top 20 of his class in 2013 with a concentration in criminal law. In January 2014, Calen joined his brother Jordan in the practice of law and created the partnership of Campanella & Campanella.
Also in January 2014, Calen joined the Board of Directors of the Du Quoin State Bank.
Their practice serves an 11-county area and will focus on adoptions, business and corporate law, civil litigation, contract law, criminal defense, divorce, domestic law, estate planning, family law, personal injury, paternity cases, wills and trusts.
