Chip Banks Chevrolet to get $600,000 makeover

The Du Quoin City Council Monday approved an agreement to use $200,000 from the newly created Rt. 51 business district to facilitate a GM-invoked $600,000 makeover of Chip Banks Chevrolet in the coming months.

The $400,000 balance will come from private capital, GM assistance and conventional borrowing.

Dealerships across the country are undergoing similar redevelopment as GM helps create a smart new branding for its historic nameplates.

Economic development director Jeff Ashauer explained the agreement, which will qualify Chip Banks for attractive vehicle pricing from GM, create new jobs and keeps the dealership ahead of the curve with respect to exceptional customer service.

This is the second such agreement. The first will help with redevelopment of the facade and signage for the new Bottom Dollar Cost Plus foodliner in the Southtowne Shopping Center.

Mayor Rex Duncan conveyed how important the dealership is to our economy as the only new car dealership in Perry County. Chip Banks Chevrolet has been part of the town's business landscape since 1995. Banks extended his appreciation to the city, as well.

The council also approved two redevelopment agreements for Dr. Richard Zimmerman that will facilitate renovation of his recently purchased 4 West Man Street business property.
