Tamaroa children celebrate their vets
Veterans Day. Tamaroa teachers and students get it!
They spent an hour Friday afternoon honoring local Tamaroa veterans with songs and a poem starting at 1:30 p.m. in the Tamaroa Grade School gymnasium.
Grade school teacher Cindy Opp and fellow faculty members opened the program with the school chorus singing the National Anthem.
All veterans present were introduced one-by-one and students who "brought a veteran" were asked to go and stand by them during the introductions.
The combined first-through-third class read the poem "Flanders Field" that reflects on the sacrifices during World War I.
That was followed by a song sung by first graders who held posters high above their heads to honor the veterans present.
Along the walls of the hallways were hand-colored pages honoring the service of our veterans.
A reception for veterans attending followed the program and ended the school day. Schools and most public offices and banks are closed today for the holiday.
