Corey Shaw 5K memorial run Saturday at fairgrounds

Friends and family of fallen firefighter Corey Shaw will honor his memory with a 5K run set for Saturday at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds, weather permitting.

The run had previously been scheduled for last Saturday, but the north side of the fairgrounds was closed for a motocross motorcycle event.

The Saturday event begins at 9 a.m. The cost for the run is $25. Money raised goes to the Corey Shaw Memorial Fund which helps firefighters with their ongoing education.

Runners and friends should register inside of Gate 4 at the fairgrounds.

Corey Shaw died in 2011 while fighting a fire at the Kunz Opera House in Pinckneyville. He was 22 years old.
