The Blessing of Going Home

Modern professional nursing home care is as much about rehabilitation and convalescence as it is about housing and medical care.

A great example is the Fair Acres Nursing Center in Du Quoin, which recently renovated and enlarged its physical therapy room.

Administrator Randee Slover said the work began about two months ago to create a bright and wholesome atmosphere that would help residents with their ambulatory skills, dexterity, hand/eye coordination, strengthening and balance.

The room was painted a bright, but soothing, yellow. Art work is all around.

Steps, strengthening equipment and dexterity tools assist residents.

The room is now finished and one of the early success stories is resident Faye Wyatt who has been undergoing therapy with the help of trained professionals.

Slover says the goal is to return Faye to independent living surroundings in her own home in the coming weeks.
