CHESTER - Chester Junior Kyle Landon high jumped 6&#39; 10" to capture the Class 1A championship of the Illinois High School Association state final. Landon had quite a day in the finals as he also finished second in the triple jump (43&#39;-09.25") and fourth in the long jump (21&#39;-10.5"). The three top five finishes gave Chester a team score of 24 points which was good enough for ninth place. Fellow Black Diamond mate, the Johnston City Indians finished tenth with 22 points. Sparta had 19 points to claim fourteenth. Chicago Leo won the Class 1A title. Landon and Mooseheart's Oumaru Abdulahi both missed at 6-11, but Landon earned the title as the result of missing just once at 6-10. He hit the bar on his final attempt at 6-8, but despite bobbing severely, the bar stayed on the standard. He missed getting a first in the triple jump with a mark of 43-9.25, a personal best, finishing second 1.5 " behind Heath Byom, Knoxville, jump of 43-10.75. Landon also took fourth in the long jump at 21-10.5.
