Reitz encourages local businesses to apply for Put Illinois to Work Program

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ State Rep. Dan Reitz (D-Steeleville) is encouraging local businesses to take advantage of a new state program that will assist many of those hit hardest by the economic downturn in Illinois.

"In order to lift our state out of the current financial crisis, we must take bold action to create jobs and spur economic growth," said Reitz. "The Put Illinois to Work program is a remarkable step in the right direction that will financially benefit employers and unemployed residents."

The Put Illinois to Work program, created by Governor Quinn and the Illinois Department of Human Services, utilizes state funds and federal stimulus dollars to provide temporary positions to low-income parents or young adults who are out of work. The program is designed to create subsidized job opportunities for low-income families and individuals, with the ultimate goal of transitioning them into subsidized employment.

Reitz is urging area businesses seeking expansion to apply for the program in order to receive 100% wage subsidy while increasing their capacity and workforce with the option of later hiring participants they train into an unsubsidized position. Eligible employers include municipalities, for-profit, private, and nonprofit organizations.

Low-income parents and young adults who participate in the program will receive up to six months of income at $10 per hour. They will also have the opportunity to learn and develop usable workplace skills and connect with other potential employers. Eligible participants must either be a parent in a household with an income below 200% of the federal poverty level ($2,428 per month for a family of two) or an 18-24 year old living with a parent or caretaker. Any interested employers or participants are encouraged to visit HYPERLINK "http://www.PutIllinoistoWork.Illinois.gov" www.PutIllinoistoWork.Illinois.gov to apply, or call Reitz's constituent service office at (618) 443-5757 for assistance.

"I have heard from countless constituents who are out of work, struggling to provide for their families, and feel like they have nowhere to turn for help," Reitz said. "I am excited about this program and the employment opportunities it will provide to those in my community who would otherwise be left behind."
