Family Reading Week in Du Quoin promises quality time and fun
You have a chance to be a hero in your children's eyes by taking them to one or both of two reading events next week.
On Tuesday, Nov. 18 the Du Quoin Public Library will host an hour-long "Reading Rocks" family reading night, which will feature tricycle races, dancing to "Mashed Potato" and Chubby Checker's "Twist" along with a hula hoop contest and root beer ice cream floats that will take you back to the 1950s.
There will be homemade cookies and, of course, reading.
Two days later, on Thursday, Nov. 20, the Du Quoin Elementary School will host its annual "Family Reading Night."
Principal Diana Rea said the event will begin at 6 p.m. and run through about 7:30 p.m. with several sessions that will include reading, crafts, free snacks and the distribution of free books to kids and parents.
